Learning on the Fly: The Life of Intern #0

Week #1 as an intern is in the books and I’ve come out the other side unscathed, for the most part.  I say for the most part because I’m still the new guy; mocking and correction are abundant.  Don’t believe me? Check out the latest episode of Hello Dolly for proof.

I’ve also come out of the first week with an even greater desire to improve: as a writer, editor, blogger and all around WordPress genius (long way to go on this last one).  I’m learning quickly how much I don’t know, which has done nothing but prove to me that I’m in a good place.

You might think it would be the opposite, that it would be frustrating to learn how much of a rookie you are, but I see it as a challenge to prove to myself that I can in fact do this and do it excellently.

What I'm aiming for.

What I’m aiming for.

There really is something invigorating about working for a company that demands excellence from you at all times, even as you’re learning.  It’s a constant education.  My main project is to migrate a ton of posts from TentBlogger to WP Daily and in that process, edit and update them.

This is in order to create a new area of education for WP Daily users and visitors – we’re pretty pumped about that. You see, we want to make WordPress education a point of emphasis here at WP Daily and this is a big step in that direction.  I’ve also been tasked with handling a good portion of the interviews we do, with a strong potential for video interviews in the future.

On top of those things, I’m being tasked with more and more responsibility as each day passes.  Just yesterday I was handed the reins to the WP Daily Google+ page, which we’re working on making much more than just an up to date list of our articles.  I’ve got some ideas up my sleeve, so stay tuned!

I’d also love to hear any ideas you have, so don’t be shy, let me know.

We’re looking forward to building something awesome here.

It has only been a week, officially, but it seems as though I’ve been around a lot longer.  Maybe it’s because of the amount of work there is, or maybe it’s because I feel like I’m part of the team already.  I don’t know but I like it.

Of course we’ll see how I feel about all of this in a few weeks.  It is, after all, John’s goal to break me.
